Personal Information    |    Media    |    Sources    |    Event Map    |    All    |    PDF

  • Name Lavina Spencer BURSLEY
    Born 11 Oct 1848  [1, 2
    • Lavina's birth was listed on her death certificate as 29 Jan 1850 and on her headstone as 1850. The informant for her death certificate was her son in law, John Cameron. Her cemetery plot was purchased by her son Bert, who presumably bought the headstone. However, a newly discovered obituary which appeared in the Princeton Union states her date of birth was October 11, 1848. A review of the census records does not provide a consistent age; however, she is listed as one year of age in the 1850 census, consistent with an October 1848 birth. In the 1900 US Census her birth was listed as October 1848, and the month/year of birth for the others in the household are all consistent with dates currently researched. Additionally, the Princeton Union obituary states Lavina was born in Bangor, Maine, which seems more likely than Augusta, Maine, a town in which no other family events have been found to have occurred. Further, Lavina and her family were enumerated in Bangor in 1850. Therefore, her birth date and place have been updated to reflect a birth of 11 Oct 1848 in Bangor, Maine. Additional research will be completed to obtain an original birth record.
